Islington Woods

Residential Development

At Islington Woods in Woodbridge, a successful marriage of planning and landscape architecture results in an interesting and attractive streetscape, atypical of subdivision development. As part of a multidisciplinary design team, we helped to design human-scaled streetscape elements, and neighbourhood green spaces that contribute to a sense of community.

A unique aspect of this design is the successful integration of the stormwater management pond into the Humber River flood plain. This ecologically sensitive design resulted in a diverse wetland habitat that attracted beavers, muskrats and an abundance of other wildlife not always common to man-made features. The firm was awarded an Urban Design Award of Distinction (1999) for this project by the City of Vaughan.
