Commemorative Monument
We were the winners of a design competition among 30 entries to design a commemorative memorial recognizing the earliest settlers to the Town of Markham. Once the project was awarded, we were responsible for the detailed design and construction of the memorial in time for a civic ceremony and unveiling before the Governor General of Ontario.
The elegant bell tower, with its authentic century bell is rung at civic ceremonies. The centrepiece of the monument is a millstone unearthed from the banks of the German Mills Creek, reflecting the early history and serving to portray the evolution of human accomplishment in the Town of Markham. Don Naylor and Associates received an Honour Award from the OALA and a Citation Award from the CSLA for this project.
