Between 2002 and 2006, Monarch Corporation was nearing the end of the development cycle on the very successful single family residential Community located in Burlington Ontario, known as Millcroft. The final phase consisted of exclusive townhome enclaves situated on the East and west banks of the East tributary of the Appleby Creek.
A condition of approval for the development was to obtain clearance from the local conservation authority to realign a portion of the stream channel and create storm water volume storage within the flood plain. Part 2 included planting restoration to fully remediate all of the disturbed conditions while preserving the riparian environment within 5 meters of the creek edge throughout the remaining stream bed.
Due to serious flooding during various stages of construction the complete project took two full seasons to complete to a point where it was stable enough to sustain flooding without erosion impact. Stream monitoring for final acceptance occurred for an additional 3 years.
